I don’t know how long I have dreamed of having my own website. I never thought I would have the time or the energy on top of my full-time job to launch an online store. I have relied heavily upon friends and word-of-mouth for sales over the last four years. I’ve been so grateful for all those who have supported me throughout the years. I had done some research and had been slowly building a website in the background for some time but was never quite ready to take the final steps. It wasn’t until a friend reached out and asked if I would like to be added to her list of Blak owned businesses to support for NAIDOC week that whipped my ass into gear. I finally took the steps (like registering for an ABN, scanning all my paintings, uploading all the painting in Smartist, then upload them to the website) in the lead up to NAIDOC week to launch my website. So much thinking and dreaming finally turned into a reality!
Such a relief. So much effort and work but also so much anticipation and joy! I realised very quickly that launching a website was only the first battle. Did I make any sales during NAIDOC? No, I did not. Did I expect to? Not really. If I sold one, I would have been happy. I sold none and I am still happy. Art is such an interesting market and it’s been fascinating following people who do it as a full-time business. I do currently know that with my full-time job, that I can’t leave or reduce my hours at this time, having all the time and energy to launch a full-time art business is not going to happen. I feel lucky to have a secure career on the side but please note my career took a lot of blood sweat and tears to make it happen. I feel very privileged that I have that, and it supports my art.
After four years of painting on the side, having family, friends and friends of friends, support me, months of slowly building a website, Ngimarre is finally up and running. Thank you for being here. Thank you for stopping by, browsing, reading this post, maybe even making a purchase. I am so glad you came across my website. I have more big dreams and big plans for the future of Ngimarre. Launching this website was just the beginning. I hope you will stick around to see.
Thank you for reading.
